Dickens, novel reading, and the Victorian popular theatre

Vlock, Deborah1998
Book
In this study, the author argues that novels were created by the popular theatre in the 19th-century, and that the possibility of reading and writing narrative was conditioned by the culture of the stage. She also examines Dickens' theatrical sources.
