A long-serving pub landlady and former Cotton Queen has died aged 93. Phyllis Rigg, who ran The New Inn, Dearnley, for more than 40 years, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016. Born in Littleborough, Phyllis attended the former Littleborough Central School and worked at Shore Mill and Silk Mill. At the age of 17, she was named Cotton Queen - a prestigious honour reserved for a young lady working in the cotton industry in the north west.
